Dell PowerEdge R340: EOL and EOSL
The EOL of the Dell PowerEdge R340 was January 21, 2023. The EOSL date is expected to be March 31, 2027. If you run an R340 or the T340 tower model, you should know these dates and plan a replacement or third-party maintenance in good time.
The Dell PowerEdge R340 is a single-socket 1U rack server from the 14th server generation (14G), built for branch offices and small data centers.
Dell itself does not publish model-wide EOL or EOSL dates for PowerEdge servers. Support usually runs for five to seven years, depending on spare parts availability. The dates in our overview therefore come from the Hardwarewartung.com lifecycle list. For an individual device, the binding date is the one Dell has stored for its Service Tag.
EOL and EOSL dates at a glance
The following table summarizes the R340, the related single-socket 14G models and their 13th-generation predecessors. The Extended Support column shows how long Hardwarewartung.com will at least maintain the devices, according to our Dell end-of-life list. Where the list gives no year, the usual period of seven to ten years after EOL applies.

PowerEdge R340
The Dell PowerEdge R340 has the regulatory model number E58S. According to the Dell spec sheet, it takes one Intel Xeon E-2100 or E-2200 series processor and, depending on the chassis, four 3.5-inch or eight 2.5-inch drives. A little over four years lie between the end of sale and the EOSL. If you want to extend ProSupport with Dell for individual devices, you should sort this out before March 2027.

PowerEdge T340
The T340 (E60S) is the tower version of the R340, built on the same platform. According to the Dell spec sheet, it holds up to eight 3.5-inch drives and has four PCIe slots, two more than the R340. Sales ended six months later than for the rack model. Even so, the list puts its EOSL earlier, on February 1, 2027. On the same day, Dell ends software maintenance for the 14th-generation iDRAC9.

13th-generation predecessors
Many companies still run the R340’s predecessors alongside it. The R330, T330, R230 and T130 already reached their EOSL in February 2024. Dell will not release a BIOS update for the new 2023 Secure Boot certificates for the 12th and 13th generations. If you want to keep running these servers, you need a third-party maintenance contract and clear network segmentation.

End of support for individual components
Individual components of the R340 platform have their own deadlines. They apply to all four 14G models in the overview, and some come earlier than the server’s EOSL.
| Component | Milestone | Date |
| iDRAC9 (14th generation) | End of feature development | June 30, 2023 |
| iDRAC9 (14th generation) | End of software maintenance | February 1, 2027 |

iDRAC9
According to Dell’s iDRAC9 guide, feature development for the 14th-generation iDRAC9 ended on June 30, 2023. Since then, only fixes for critical vulnerabilities have been released, at Dell’s discretion. From February 1, 2027, Dell is no longer obliged to maintain the firmware. The iDRAC port then belongs in an isolated management network with no internet connection.
Intel processors
For the platform’s processors, such as the Xeon E-2124 and the Xeon E-2236, Intel lists June 30, 2025 as the end of servicing updates. Since that date, Intel no longer releases microcode updates for these CPUs to the general market. Newly discovered processor vulnerabilities therefore remain unpatched.
Secure Boot and BIOS
The Secure Boot certificates that Microsoft issued in 2011 began expiring in June 2026. In its guide to the new certificates, Dell names BIOS version 2.21.0 as the minimum for the R340, T340, R240 and T140. Version 2.21.1 followed on December 16, 2025, and Dell rates it as urgent. On Windows servers with Secure Boot enabled, Dell requires some preparation before the update, including temporarily suspending BitLocker.
Check the end of support for your own device
The actual end of Dell support depends on the seven-character Service Tag. If the server is not within reach, read the tag from the operating system:
- Windows Server: wmic bios get serialnumber
- Linux: sudo dmidecode -s system-serial-number
- VMware ESXi: esxcli hardware platform get
With the tag, the Dell support portal shows the device’s warranty and ProSupport term. According to a Dell community moderator, EOL information appears under “Service Events” once the “Historical” filter is enabled. It is best to enter the dates in your CMDB so that no contract expires unnoticed.
FAQ: frequently asked questions
Has Dell published an official EOL date for the R340?
No. In its operating system matrix, Dell marks almost all 14G platforms as discontinued, but gives no date. The dates in this article come from the Hardwarewartung.com overview.
Will the R340 stop working after March 31, 2027?
The Dell PowerEdge keeps running after the EOSL. After that date, however, Dell generally no longer sends spare parts or technicians. A third-party maintenance contract covers these tasks.
Why does the Dell PowerEdge T340 have an earlier EOSL than the R340?
The Hardwarewartung.com list puts the T340’s EOSL at February 1, 2027, the same day iDRAC9 maintenance ends. Dell does not publicly explain model-wide dates. For a specific device, the date stored for its Service Tag is what counts.
How long will Hardwarewartung.com maintain the Dell PowerEdge R340?
According to the Dell end-of-life list, until at least 2035. Spare parts come from our own warehouses, and depending on the contract, repairs are completed within as little as four hours.
What operators should do by February 2027
Install BIOS 2.21.1 and the latest iDRAC9 firmware while Dell still provides both. Then move the iDRAC port to an isolated management network. Collect the Service Tags of all your R340, T340, R240 and T140 servers and send the list to Hardwarewartung.com. You will then receive a free, no-obligation quote for maintenance after the EOSL.
